UOWD brings top-ranking Executive MBA program to UAE

Dubai, 23 January 2017: The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has announced the introduction of a new Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program based on the top-ranking course delivered by Sydney Business School in Australia.

The new program will be launched for the Spring 2017 semester and will target senior managers and business leaders across both public and private sectors in the region. Accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education – Higher Education Affairs, the program will draw upon the curriculum of the Sydney Business School EMBA, while also addressing locally relevant case studies and regional industry challenges.

As the graduate school of the Faculty of Business at the University of Wollongong in Australia, Sydney Business School has an outstanding international reputation in the field of executive education, with its EMBA positioned in Tier 1 of the global rankings published by the London-based CEO Magazine. Following the same curriculum, students of the EMBA in Dubai will have the unique option to graduate with a degree from UOW Australia.

The program is being introduced to help top executives to address the strategic and operational challenges of an increasingly complex business environment in the MENA region. It aims to equip skilled managers with the tactical expertise to become transformational leaders within their professional field.

Professor Barry O’Mahony, Dean of UOWD’s Faculty of Business said, “As Dubai matures as both a regional and international business hub, it needs professionals with the relevant management skills and leadership capabilities to address the opportunities and challenges this growing stature brings. UOWD is delighted to be able to contribute to this capacity building with the introduction of a world-class, executive-level degree program.”

The course structure is informed by industry research and uniquely comprises a set of subjects that follows the lifecycle of any organisation, from start-up and growth, to maturity and transformational change. It aims to provide students with a focus on strategic priorities and to enhance their network development potential to maximise stakeholder value. Students will develop the knowledge to become proactive in planning to adapt their organisation to environmental changes and avoid drift from strategic goals.

Program Director, Dr Mohan Guruswamy said, “The program will develop students’ capabilities to tackle significant global business and leadership challenges in an increasingly complex and competitive marketplace. This environment requires a more intensive focus on theory and on business intelligence in particular. The effective interpretation of information to support decision-making processes and to optimize performance is vital, and this is central to the EMBA program.”

The delivery format of the program has been designed for busy working professionals seeking to access the EMBA while continuing in full-time employment. Each subject will be taught over four weekends of in-class study, allowing students to implement their learning directly in the workplace as they progress through the course. Combined with independent study, the course will take 18 to 24 months to complete, and incorporates a period of overseas study to expose the region’s future leaders to the opportunities and challenges of the international business environment.

The EMBA was officially launched on 14 February. For further information contact us on info@uowdubai.ac.ae or contact 04 278 1800
