Face to Face with... | Saloni Shah, Regional Manager, Qantas

Please tell us a little about (your workplace/business)

Qantas started flight operations from Dubai in 2013 and as a result set up a regional office in Dubai. Qantas operates flights from Dubai  to London, Sydney and Melbourne connecting to over 55 destinations in Australia and New Zealand. Qantas operates here in partnership with Emirates and offers connections from across the Middle East via Dubai. In India Qantas works with Jet Airways to connect passengers via the Far East onward to Australia and New Zealand.

What is your role at (your workplace/business)?

I am the Regional Manager based in Dubai looking after the Middle East, India and the rest of South Asia which includes Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

How long have you been working in the role and where were you working previously?

I have been with Qantas since 2013 from the start of operations in Dubai, I joined as Commercial Manager for Middle East. Prior to working with Qantas I have worked with British Airways, KLM and Kenya Airways.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I've been in the Travel Industry the past 25 years.  I love that it is such a people oriented business and an extremely dynamic industry.

What is the most challenging and difficult aspect of your job?

The very same dynamic nature of the industry along with the competitive environment and all the challenges that come with that.

What does a typical day at work look like?

I start my day early which helps me get in enough time with my colleagues in Australia before the work day here gets busy. I tend to travel across the region I cover, meeting the team and key business partners in all our key locations.

How do you like to spend your leisure time?

I have two young children that keep me very busy, yoga helps me relax and when I do get time reading is something I love to do.

Do you have any general comments to make about living in Dubai?

I've lived in Dubai for 18 years. It never ceases to amaze me just how much and how fast Dubai has developed. I think Dubai is a great city for children to grow up in, truly multi cultural and educational in itself.
