Australia Awards 2024
The Australia Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of Australian business people within the UAE community. In recent years the awards have expanded to recognise a broader acknowledgement of the impact of Australians in the UAE across three categories:
- Australian Business Person of the Year
- Community Engagement Award
- AUS-UAE Legacy Award
The awards recognise the nominees' outstanding contributions, reputation, and ethics in their respective categories, either throughout the previous calendar year or in the case of the Legacy Award, over the previous ten years.
The judging panel comprises representatives from the Australian Embassy, Austrade, the Australian Business Council, the Australian Business Group Abu Dhabi, Dubai Chambers, Abu Dhabi Chambers, the Australian Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry and past award recipients.
2024 Australian Business Person of the Year
This award recognises outstanding business acumen, effectiveness, and efficiency. The person will have made a significant contribution to a business or project during the preceding year and will have an outstanding reputation for business ethics.
Evaluation Criteria
- Must be an Australian living in the UAE for at least the last six months;
- Exhibits an excellent level of business standards and ethics;
- Demonstrates leadership vision and community involvement;
- Proven business achievement;
- Demonstrates concern for work environment;
- Fosters awareness of the Australian business community through local, national and international business dealings.
2024 Community Engagement Award
This award recognises outstanding contributions to the community. The person will have significantly contributed to engaging and supporting their community during the preceding year and will have an outstanding reputation for integrity, cultural awareness, and ethics.
Evaluation Criteria
- Must be an Australian living in the UAE for at least the last six months;
- Exhibits an excellent level of principles and ethics;
- Demonstrates leadership and vision through community involvement;
- Demonstrates concern for the community, and fosters awareness of the Australian community through local, national and international activities.
2024 AUS-UAE Legacy Award
This award recognises outstanding leadership, contributions, reputation, and ethics over the past decade. The nominee must be an Australian who has lived in the UAE for more than ten years. The person will have made a significant contribution during this time, have an outstanding reputation for business ethics, and be recognised as a leading Australian professional in the UAE.
Evaluation Criteria
- Must be an Australian living in the UAE for at least the last ten years;
- Exhibits an excellent level of principles and ethics;
- Demonstrates leadership and vision;
- Demonstrates commitment to both the UAE and the Australian community;
- Represents the best of Australian business acumen and professionalism through all activities.
Nominations
Nominations can be received from anyone, either by the nominee themselves or a third party.

Representatives and employees from the judging bodies, including current business council board members, and previous winners, are ineligible.
Selection and Award Process
The Australia Business Council will manage the nomination process.
The judging panel will review the nominations, with each judge selecting their top three nominees for each award category.
A shortlist of three candidates will be agreed upon for each category (the finalists).
The shortlisted candidates will be contacted to ensure they are happy to be considered for the award.
The finalists will be invited to a lunch in Dubai on or around Friday 24 May 2024.
